Highridge Clean-up Project
On April 8 and 9, 2006, Schuylkill County took part in the Cleanup Our Anthracite Lands and Streams (COALS) program. Operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, this initiative seeks to clean up existing dump sites and to prevent the establishment of new ones. Participants included the Schuylkill Headwaters, Schuylkill Conservation Club, and the Minersville Leos, as well as Schuylkill Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Lloyd S. Aungst Excavating provided and operated the machinery necessary for removing the debris. Altogether, 4 roll-offs of tires (15 tons) and 7 roll-offs of trash (90.97 tons) were removed.

Llewellyn West Creek Clean-up Project
This project focused on an illegal dump site that was approximately two acres in size. The Schuylkill Headwaters Association, Branch Township, and the Good Intent Hose Company came together to reclaim the land and convert it into a recreational space. Thirty tons of debris was removed. Tires and metal were properly recycled while the remaining debris was taken to Waste Management’s Pine Grove Landfill. Lloyd S. Aungst Excavating provided and operated the machinery necessary for these relocations. Future plans include an expansion of the adjacent West Creek Park to include the newly reclaimed area and provide a much larger space for recreation and better access to the creek.
